Celebrating 30 years since the inception of the ISQCCBE in 1990, Reign 28 would be known as the House of Inclusion and the Court of Diversity.
Following the ascension to their thrones in October 2019, Emperor 28 Bob Gilbert and Empress 25/Regent Empress 28 set lofty goals and filled their reign calendar with more than 120 fundraising events, meetings, and trips to attend coronations across the United States and Canada before their scheduled stepdown the following year.
Unfortunately, as they were doing that, the novel Coronavirus known as COVID-19 began making it’s way across the globe, infecting millions. By March 17, 2020, most of the world had shut down and people everywhere were on lockdown in their homes, unable to leave unless it was to seek medical attention or secure food and medicine.
As life came to a standstill, the world kept spinning and the needs of our community seemed to grow exponentially.
Although the last seven months of their reign were thrown into uncertainty and the ability to raise funds traditionally at drag shows in bars and restaurants was ripped away from them, the royal family and ISQCCBE membership creatively came together - figuratively.
Fundraising efforts transitioned online and featured virtual shows and events. Various auctions were carried out on Facebook and socially distanced events were eventually held outside to maintain the safety and health of all attendees. The Miss COVID ‘20 pageant was held online and Molly spread the good word with Drunk Tarot Readings and blind reactions on social media.
While it wasn’t anywhere near what they expected to raise, Reign 28 worked hard and continued fundraising for their seven designated charities (AVNK, AFSP, Caracole, GLSEN, Josephine’s Clinic, Safe and Supported, and the Cincinnati YWCA Domestic Abuse Shelter) in addition to supporting pandemic relief in the Cincinnati community and local Black Lives Matter initiatives, too.
Bob and Molly stepped down during a socially- distanced mini coronation at The Cabaret on Sunday, October 18, 2020.
Reign 29 will be spearheaded by the College of Monarchs of the ISQCCBE under the leadership of the College Representative, Empress 8 Miss Tate.
